This video documents ‘HOT & COLD’ a multimedia painting and drawing installation created by Harriet Poznansky and 'Reciprocal Gaze' a performance directed by Harriet Poznansky and choreographed in collaboration wit Alice Polli, 2023.
Following invitation from WAY OUT EAST, University of East London, to participate in their Container Space Residency and Exhibition Programme, Poznansky created a multimedia painting installation featuring new artworks made during the three month residency period.
The residency allowed Poznansky the time and resources to developed with greater scale and ambition work and ideas from ‘DREAM GIRLS DREAM’, a series of drawings she had made previously that referenced a soft porn calendar Poznansky found in an abandoned car garage on the Old Kent Road in 2020.
Poznansky’s fascination with the soft porn calendar as an image object published annually by ‘STEEL’ specifically for car garages, continued to drive the creation of ‘HOT & COLD’ and ‘Reciprocal Gaze’. Which used painting, drawing, print making, sound, performance and site specific response to the 28ft industrial container, to materialise themes of natural and mechanical time, desire and fetish, subjectivity and the subconscious, production and reproduction and representations of the female body throughout time, art history, and contemporary media.
